Screenshooter
I got tired of taking screenshots of websites and stitching them together by hand for moodboards. Then I realized I didn’t need to anymore.
So I spent a weekend building myself a little Mac app to do it for me. Using Claude and Codex I was able to turn a list of URLs into screenshots, feels like digital alchemy.
Product Demo
A sample run. Pick your devices and a color scheme, hit Capture, then grab the files.
URLs
The demo only runs this list. The real app takes any list.
Capture
Your folder
Downloads are full-size JPGs so they don’t take forever. The app itself saves PNG, JPG, WEBP or PDF. Stripe and Linear don’t have a dark mode.
How it got built
-
Started janky
I was using a Node script to read a text file of URLs and turn that into screenshots. It worked, but I wanted it to be more real.
-
Then a real Mac app
Moved it to Electron and built a UI. A hard problem to solve was getting websites to sit still. There’s a lot of elements that can break the stitch so I needed to account for all the banners, consent forms, and animations.
-
Then I tried to break it
Had an agent run a test plan against the app, then opened the actual images to check every bug before I felt confident. 12 bugs found. The big one: on scaled displays every full-page shot had a white strip down the right side (about 16% of the image, whoops). But just a one-line fix.
Want it?
Right now it’s a tool I built for me. If enough people want it, I’ll polish it up, get it signed, and put it on GitHub.
